U.S. European Commander General Curtis M. Scaparrotti met with Iceland senior leaders Nov. 26-27 in Reykjavik where they discussed a variety of topics including global security and the importance of the NATO Alliance.
In discussions with Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and Minister for Foreign Affairs Gudlaugur Thordarson, the leaders spoke about the strategic importance of Iceland and U.S. Iceland relations. Scaparrotti also thanked them for their contributions and support as a co-host in the recently-held
NATO-led exercise Trident Juncture 18, which took place in Iceland and Norway, Oct. 25-Nov. 7. Additionally, during the visit Scaparrotti met with Iceland Coast Guard representatives and received a presentation at and toured the Keflavik Air Base, led by the base commander, CAPT Jon Gudnason.
