The construction of this new bathroom facility at Singerei Middle School is part of a larger project to renovate facilities at eight rural schools in Moldova serving more than 2,500 students and totaling more than $430,000. The Government of Moldova requested the U.S. Embassy's assistance with the water and sanitation situation in rural areas of Moldova and identified the schools in the most needy situations for renovation of sanitary facilities. About 95 percent of rural schools in Moldova have only outside toilets on the cesspool, with no access to water and adequate sanitation. With EUCOM Humanitarian Assistance funding, the Office Of Defense Cooperation and Bilateral Affairs Office have completed sanitation projects at schools in Singerei, Chiperceni, Molesti, Vulcanesti, Cazaclia, Congaz, and Besalma. The site was officially dedicated during a ceremony at the school Nov. 17.
